its that time again...

ah.... the changing of the seasons, and it feels so good. i love the warm wind, and the smell of pumpkin goodies cooking in the kitchen :) excited to get some baking done with friends.

it is going to be a very busy month... full of parties, classes, you name it. the thing that i am most excited about, though.... taking that certain someone to the pumpkin patch and corn maze, for his first time EVER. thats right folks... he has never been. of course i will be the paparazzi while we go and will load up on pictures of this fun event :)

it is also that time of year again, for breast cancer awareness month!! there are a lot of avenues to donate to the research cause available to us this time of year, so choose wisely! as far as hair stylists go, most of the product lines have re-released our tried and true favorites in pretty pink cans, and donate most of the proceeds!!!

i was happy for the first time to be able to combine both of my jobs in a way. i rallied together a little crew from the salon to volunteer to style hair at Sutter's Catwalk for a Cure. So fun... here are some lovely photos.

believe it or not... could not find the right colored pink shirts this time of year. they were probably all bought out.. so i took it upon myself to dye them in a bucket in the sink.. hehehe!!

ah.... my lovely iron on transfers. i am lucky we have such a simple logo.

the little stack of finished product... so fun!! of course, a bunch of the other stylists wanted them. but, i said NO! special edition only, for those who came to work that day :)

nannette and heidi hard at work... haha those girls look unenthused

some of my messy, flirty handywork. to be worn with a little black dress. love.

feels like family.

we closed down the salon today for some good old fashioned bbq fun. there are 20 of us that work at dd&q... and i have to say that these are some of the best people that i have ever met in my life. it feels so amazing to me how everyone let me in to their family, and they are all so loving and caring. i have only been working there since march, but it feels like home to me already. just a quick group shot... we are missing two in this picture. more pictures to come soon. i kind of sat back and relaxed today and didn't take any photos, because my darling partner in crime kristen had it covered. then, we let heidi's daughter ella loose with the camera... people tend to strike funnier poses for kids with cameras!!! we will see how all those pictures turned out!!

ice cream paint job

nothing super new or fun to report, i guess. just the regular lifestyle, keepin busy. gettin older. turned 24 on july 11, yippee.

i did, however, take up a fun project at the salon. while mr bossman was in the dr on vacation, i decided to give a makeover to our soda machine out back. people didn't think that it really worked, because it looked so ugly and run down. plus, i decided it could have just been way cuter. ummm.... well it was tagged up a little bit before, and then covered in.. house paint?? whattt...

after an afternoon, plus one morning of harsh chemicals, elbow grease, and scraping, i was able to reveal this underneath... funny, because we had all thought that it was a coca cola machine! haha. i had to scrape it down because the surface was uneven, and really gloppy in some areas... those who know me know that i do not like to half-ass things like this. also, i didn't want to take the time to spray paint it all and then have it chip because the under layer was too thick!! it was tricky indeed, because the surface was plastic, i couldn't use the traditional and ever so handy turpentine on it, i had to get some graffiti remover crap that was safe on plastic.

ooooooh.... voila... so beautiful, and solid gold!! it is just indoor/outdoor gold flecked paint, by rustoleum.. soooo gorgeous. of course, i sealed over it with an outdoor, glossy sealer, to prevent the weather beating that it will surely get.

black, self adhesive vinyl, and crown die cut thanks to my ever so wonderful cricut machine, and the indie accents cartridge!!!

love love love to doodle... but it is so hard for me to stop!! i had to put my own touch on things, so that the next assistant will know that they have a reputation to live up to!! haha..

it's official

well, i got the job that i really really wanted!!!! yay!! i start on tuesday. i will be assisting at daredevils & queens salon, in historic railroad square.... yessss!!! it's a start... i need to get my foot in the door somewhere, and i really couldn't think of a better place to do it. the salon is very funky and young, and seems like a great fit for me. somewhere that i won't have to compromise who i am and cover my tattoos, just to get a paycheck, or not be judged.

for those who know me, i got my cosmetology license in july of last year, and haven't worked since. i need to learn so much more before i go out and rent a station or try and make commission. i feel like it'll be a great start to a new chapter in my life. here are some pictures that i took from their facebook page to share.. excellent!!
